Here’s a little shout out to all the mums out there – a day late, because I’m a wedding photographer.

The older I get the more I realise just how much my mother has shown me about business.  Don’t get me wrong, my mum is no business person or guru.  She didn’t do an MBA at a Business College nor did she sell a company at the age of 30.

She was however, very hard working, very kind, very loyal, and above all had an amazing work ethic.

You see, to an immigrant, working in a new country is an honour.  So she always delivered more than she promised.  And she was always in demand.  And for her work, she charged more than the going rate.

I used to get so annoyed at her because she worked so hard, and she gave more than what she got paid for… Something that I felt I would never do.   That is until I started to run my businesses, and slowly and surely my mum’s work ethic started to make sense.

My love of photography really started because of the importance of pictures that my mother placed.  She treasured all the photographs that she had.  They brought her comfort and made her happy.  They recorded her life in Spain, and the people she missed the most.  To her, photographs were important.  And it wasn’t long before her camera made her way into my hands.

Yesterday was Mothers’ Day, and I was working, shooting a gorgeous wedding.  Which meant that I also got to miss my wife celebrating Mothers’ Day with our daughter.

So I wanted to say a huge thanks to my mum, to my wife who is an amazing mother and in fact to all our mums.  Those that still nag us and those who we wish were here to nag us just a little more.  Because they really do know best.
