One of the last shots I take…The Venue
I am so lucky as a wedding photographer, because I get to spend most wedding days photograph beautiful things…from the dresses, the shoes…the suits the cathedrals and churches to the venues. A very welcome change from some of my commercial work.
One of my favourite shots to take is towards the end of the night, when I shoot the external venue shot. Usually, the venue is in a gorgeous location, surrounded by trees and perfect skies. I drag my tired body out of the venue, find my car and carry the world’s heaviest tripod to a suitable vantage point (usually in the dark).
Here are some of my favourite recent venue shots. As always I am grateful to all the marquee companies, the wedding coordinators…the venues, the florists, the caterers who work so hard to ensure every venue is perfect, but I am especially grateful to the couples that allow me to take just one more photograph and be a part of their special day.

The techie stuff…
I usually shoot on either a 5dMkII or III, on either a 24mm or 35mm, with exposures of F:5.6 at 2-8 seconds. Always on a tripod, a Manfrotto 058b (HEAVY but sturdy…but a pain to carry).
