The 5 things you must ask any wedding photographer

before you book them

So you’re getting married and the planning has already started…but booking any professional service can be daunting and sometimes stressful. Our aim is to make booking your wedding photographer as easy as possible.
Here’s our quick guide to what to ask a wedding photographer before booking them, and more importantly the answers you should expect to help you decide who to book to record your very special day.

1. Can I see complete client galleries?

This is a really important question. All photographers can showcase their best images, but you need to see complete client galleries. This is the only way that you, as the client, can get an idea of the type of photography, the number of images included in a typical gallery and the fact that your potential photographer has indeed completed weddings as a principle photographer.

2. Are you insured?

Most wedding venues expect all suppliers to have adequate, professional insurance, otherwise the suppliers may not be allowed to work there.  The day of your wedding is not the time to find out that your photographer isn’t insured.  If you are a professional photographer, then indemnity and public liability is a must.  This protects you as the client and it protects the photographer too.

3. When will I get to see the pictures (what’s your time scale / turn-a-round)?

A good wedding photographer will always get swamped during the wedding season…so you have to have a clear indication of when you will get to see your images, and when you’ll receive your finished book there after.

The time taken to produce your wedding album depends on your requirements and it’s not unusual for me to produce a book six months after the wedding. However, you need to have a clear idea on the schedule.

Because of my excitement about a wedding, you’ll usually get to see a sneak peak the very next day (usually sent via email)…and by the time you return from your honeymoon you’ll be able to see your online gallery. Then, when you’ve finalised your shots, we will work together to produce either your book or your album, which usually takes another two to four weeks (although I aim to do it much sooner).

4. What exactly is included within the service package?

I’ve heard of so many horror stories of ‘hidden extras’ surfacing after the wedding!  Be completely clear of what is included in the price, and get a definite indication of how much things like additional books or re-prints will cost. I’ve heard stories of really cheap bookings, only for the bride to be surprised at the cost of re-prints and other extras. You’ll get a full price list detailing every cost of additional services, so you can budget. Additionally, when you book me you’ll get a clear contract of what exactly you will get.  For more info on my wedding services, click here.

5. Printing rights and in what format do your images arrive?

Personally, I provide my clients with their edited images in both full resolution and low resolution, without watermarks and with full printing rights.  This means that you can print from your images and share them on social media.  But do get this clarified with your photographer at the time of booking them.  This is how I present your wedding images.
